Tempeh Bacon Recipe Without Liquid Smoke

Add 1 tablespoon of water to the pan and stir.

Tempeh bacon recipe without liquid smoke. Then place tempeh in a container and pour on marinade. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of liquid smoke on each side for 2 teaspoons total. When ready to bake tempeh, preheat oven to 400 degrees f (205 degrees c).

In one serving of this tempeh bacon, you get a whopping 19 grams of protein and only 5 grams of net carbs! Flip tempeh so that both sides have been coated in the liquid. I prefer to slice tempeh thinly from the short side to create small bacon pieces.

Cover and seal well, place in the refrigerator and allow to marinate for at least 30 minutes. Heat some oil in a skillet (photo 4) and when it’s hot, add the tempeh and cook for 1 or 2 minutes each side over high heat (photo 5). Lay cooked tempeh bacon on parchment paper to cool.

Place the steamed tempeh in an 8x8 or similarly sized baking dish. When the oil is hot, add the tempeh strips in an even layer. Place the tempeh bacon strips in the pan with the marinade and bring to a rolling simmer over medium heat.
